Kingfisher Park Traffic Woes

Traffic congestion in Kingfisher has really gone from bad to worse. Got to leave home for work before 6.30 to avoid the congestion at the one and only bridge that connecting kingfisher housing to the outer world. To get to my office which is less than 10 km away, it took about 45 minutes if i leave home at 7.30 am.

Such a ridicule that the authority is doing nothing till now to solve the problem owing to the obvious fact that there is a specialist hospital located in the area, and the now vast population of kingfisher housing estates. The slow traffic don't bother me much than the fracas to go to the bridge single lane from a 4 - 5 lane formation from the 3 roundabouts in kingfisher (I did all my best to keep on the right lane so that i don't have to be on other's mercy to cut onto the right lane later).

Missed the days when I can reached office within 5 - 7 minutes. If I need turn back to get things that I've forgotten to bring, no hassle at all. But now, it would be a silly idea. Restaurants also see less patronage as more prefer Alam Mesra. But above all, my concern over patients mobility to or from Likas Specialist Hospital.

I came across this article some time ago and wonder ....

RM10mil Kingfisher roundabout work to end congestion
Daily Express, published on: Sunday, February 08, 2009

Tuaran: Deputy Chief Minister cum Infrastructure Development Minister, Datuk Raymond Tan (pic), said the RM10 million upgrading work involving the Kingfisher roundabout in Likas, near here, would be completed as soon as possible.
He said this would end the traffic congestion that has been plaguing the stretch.
"We are seeking the best approach to deal with the traffic congestion in the Kingfisher area for the benefit of road users," he said after launching the Chinese New Year celebration organised by the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park Sdn Bhd at the Salut Commercial Centre, here, Saturday.
"What we see is that the big roundabout in the area did not help ease the traffic congestion, so with the project the problem will be solved," he said, adding the area would also be affected by flood when it rains heavily.
Among the upgrading work, Tan said, is the construction of a three-lane stretch, installation of traffic lights and an overhead bridge for vehicles.
He said the blueprint for the project has been completed, pointing out that the project would be implemented anytime.
"The project will involve the Public Works Department (PWD), Water Department and others," he said.
Meanwhile, the PWD is working round-the-clock to re-establish the Sandakan-Kota Kinabalu road at Mile 20 that was damaged by a landslide.
"A continuous downpour caused flash floods in the surrounding low-lying areas," Tan said, adding the Sultan of Brunei had to cancel his plans to visit the district because of the bad weather recently.
